1. News Discussion Club

One-hour news discussion sessions held three times a week

Time:

  • Wednesdays 8.00pm - 9.00pm
  • Fridays 7.00pm - 8.00pm
  • Saturdays 1.30pm - 2.30pm

New & different materials covered in every session. Covers local and international current affairs

Students can select:

  • Lessons once a week (attend Fridays OR Saturdays)
  • Lessons twice a week (attend Fridays AND Saturdays)

2. Police News & Management Group

A two-part lesson run once a week by Paul Arkwright (Wednesdays 7.00 - 9:30pm)

Part A: News Discussion Group (1¼ hrs) 7.00pm - 8.15pm

  • Debate on recent international and local news events.
  • Debate on general ethical issues.
  • Discussion of Force-related problems.
  • Update on recent EI discussion topics and final board questions.
  • Guided group discussion and summary of such issues.
  • Handout on latest EI discussion topics / current affairs.
  • Immediate feedback on group and individual performances.
  • Discussion of specific techniques for particular exercises.

Skills Developed: Broader Thinking, Current Affairs Knowledge, Compromising Ideas, Communication Skills, Confidence, Interpersonal Skills, Attitude & English Fluency.

Part B: Management Exercise (1¼ hrs) 8.15pm - 9.30pm

  • One management exercise as used in the E.I.
  • Immediate feedback on group and individual performances.
  • Discussion of specific techniques for particular exercises.
  • Detailed feedback on management exercises from previous sessions.
  • 1.5 hr sessions conducted in groups of similar size to the E.I.

Skills Developed: Management Skills, Communication Skills, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Confidence, Interpersonal Skills, Command & Control, Attitude & English Fluency.

 

3. Written Test Preparatory Lessons

1-hour lessons run once a week to develop English skills and help candidates become familiar with the content and format of the civil service written examination.

Saturdays 1.30pm - 2.30pm

Skills Developed: Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence Structure, Test Related Skills - reading comprehension, summary sentences, summary writing, editing & proofreading, cloze test, essay writing, aptitude test & timing.

 

4. Private Tuition

Available at any time and on any day Monday - Saturday (subject to availability of teachers). All lessons tailored to suit the individual needs of candidates; you can select any or all of the following topics:

  • Preliminary Interview
  • English Language Test Preparation
  • Aptitude Test Preparation
  • Summary Presentation Skills
  • Impromptu Talk
  • Practical Leadership
  • Current Affairs: Ethical Issues and Recent E.I. Discussion Topics
  • Final Board

Format: One-on-one / small groups arranged by client.

Time:

  • A Fixed lessons (same time and day every week).
  • B. Floating lessons (variable time and day to suit shift pattern, lessons are pre-booked four in advance and specific lesson times confirmed before each lessons. All four lessons must be taken within one calendar month).
